Thank you to everyone who made our HOPE REPAIR DREAM event a success! The event, which took place just on November 18th, broke ground on the Sunset Futsal Park and celebrated a new public mural, called HOPE REPAIR DREAM, at the Hayward Adult School (HAS).
Six years in the making, the Sunset Futsal Park will turn an unsafe, unused space into a four-court futsal park to ease the shortage of park and sports fields for youth in the area.
The HOPE REPAIR DREAM mural is one of nine youth-led murals commissioned by DSAL and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) to foster social cohesion and empower residents to beautify their neighborhoods. Public art is a vital part of our transformative Community Capitals Policing initiative to invest in the natural, human, social, economic, built, political, and cultural capitals a community needs to thrive.
The event also featured an open house to welcome the community into DSAL’s new fitness arena and to learn about DSAL’s sports and recreation activities available for free at HAS. DSAL’s boxing, soccer, dance, drumline, fitness, and wrestling programs give youth a safe, productive place where they feel at home–a place of ownership in the community.
We are thankful to our partners: ACSO, HAS, and the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District; and we are deeply grateful to the Valley Foundation, Aramark, and Wellpath for their generous financial support for the construction of the Sunset Futsal Park.
If you missed the event, please visit DSAL’s website to learn more about all of the activities available for free at HAS.
